Captured at Bristoe Station, Virginia, October 14, 1863. Confined at Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C., until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, October 27, 1863. Exchanged and returned to duty in November-December, 1864. Captured at Amelia Court House, Virginia, April 5, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout until released on June 29, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance. He migrated to central Illinois after the Civil War and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Clinton, IL.
